Extraordinary Nurse Recognized at Crossroads

May 13, 2024

MOUNT VERNON, IL –Crossroads Community Hospital nurse Becky Clinton-Harmon was recently honored with The DAISY Award® For Extraordinary Nurses. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s programs to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day.

Harmon’s nomination stated that she always has a smile on her face and is mentioned during leadership rounding nearly every shift she works. A Crossroads patient shared that there is a comfort when arriving
at Crossroads Community Hospital Emergency Room to find Becky as the nurse welcoming them. She is calm, knowledgeable, patient, kind and compassionate, nominators said. Her peers talk about “gettingBeckied” because Becky is always the first nurse in the room. They say she deserves the DAISY Award for going above and beyond and creating a compassionate and safe environment for patients.

The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation was established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes by his family. Barnes died in 1999 at 33 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little
known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. The care Barnes and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired the award thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their
patients and their families.

“When Patrick was critically ill, our family experienced first-hand the remarkable skill and care nurses provide patients every day and night,” DAISY Foundation Co-Founder Bonnie Barnes said. “Yet these
unsung heroes are seldom recognized for the super-human work they do. The kind of work the nurses at (hospital) are called on to do every day epitomizes the purpose of The DAISY Award.”
Crossroads Community Hospital Chief Nursing Officer Desiree Stumpf, MJ, BSN, RN, HACP believes it is imperative to honor nurses with the DAISY Award as a way to recognize and celebrate their
exceptional dedication, compassion and commitment to providing high-quality patient care.

“By acknowledging and appreciating the hard work and selfless service of our nurses, we not only boost their morale and motivation, but also inspire them to continue striving for excellence in their practice,”
she said. “The DAISY Award serves as a powerful reminder of the invaluable impact nurses have on the lives of their patients and their families, and I am proud to support this important initiative. Becky is our
first selected honoree for Crossroads Community Hospital, and I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this recognition.”
